Project Title: Cover and Comfort Wrap

What is the issue?

People with dementia who are unable to express their needs may exhibit responsive or aggressive behaviours. Being naked during personal care routines, like bathing, can make them feel particularly uncomfortable, embarrassed, and anxious.

What did we do?

We designed the Cover and Comfort Wrap, a towel with an elastic band and Velcro attachments that keep it in place on a person’s chest or lower body.

What did we find?

The wrap provided dignity and privacy during assisted personal care routines. Residents using the cover had fewer responsive behaviours, and some used it to stay warm. Many care workers reported that the wrap made it easier to perform personal care tasks and that extra staff and medication were not required.
