Project Title: What to Expect When You’re Expecting Residential Care? A How-to Video Series for the Public

What is the issue?

Many seniors and their families struggle to understand the complicated process of moving into a long-term care home. There is little information and support available to help them navigate the system.

What did we do?

We met with stakeholder groups to learn which topics were most important to them about the process of moving into a long-term care home. Based on their input, we created a series of short videos. They provided quick and simple explanations of the most confusing parts of the process and directed seniors to the right resources for individual support. We shared the videos with a group of 36 seniors and family members and asked them about their understanding of the process before and after they saw the videos.

What did we find?

The videos helped older adults and their families learn who would benefit from moving to a long-term care home, how to secure a spot, and what to expect when they move in. The videos significantly increased their understanding of the process.
